AFRICANDO 2007 10th ANNUAL US-AFRICA TRADE AND INVESTMENT SYMPOSIUM Theme:African Cultures and Development AfriCANDO 2007will explore the links between diversity of national cultures,their unity and originality as a basis for African progress and development.The summit views culture as an ensemble of distinctive characteristics,including spiritual, material,intellectual and affective that characterizes a society or social group.In addition to the arts,literature,and lifestyle,it encompasses the fundamental rights of the human being,systems of value,and traditions and beliefs.From these hypotheses and suppositions between culture and development,and through comparison of the role culture played in the development of the Asian countries; AfriCANDO 2007will propose an analysis of the taking or not into account of cultural factors in the evaluation of development perspective in Africa. Among the topics to be covered is “Expanding Franchise Opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises and Minority Owned Businesses;”aworkshop on Intercultural Competence targeted toward businessmen and women who are ready to do business in Africa.A skill essential for planning purposes and for developing the requisite negotiation skills in order to effectively conduct business in Africa. Diaspora Town Hall Meeting and AfriCANDO Art & Culture Folk Life Festival is one of the highlights of AfriCANDO 2007—and is a one day event designed to showcase the African influence thatexists throughout the world and includes a panel discussion on African Cosmogony,cultural performances,a health fair and an African marketplace.
